Maintenance
We don't just build decks, we also provide a comprehensive maintenance service, ensuring your deck is safe, beautiful, and long-lasting. From cleaning and treatments to structural repairs and board replacement. However for a keen DIY`er, many maintenance tasks can be completed by yourself, read on to learn more.
Cleaning
Cleaning your deck can be as simple as sweeping debris and hosing the surface on a regular basis. Its recommend giving the deck a clean every month to prevent the excessive build-up of dirt and debris.
The build up of debris, such as fallen leaves and moss can form a slippery layer as well as hiding the true beauty of your garden structure.
We offer a deck jet-washing service, using high-pressure washers to clean and restore the appearance of wood and composite decking. This process doesn't damage the decks surface however if decking boards are painted and due for re-paint the process of jet-washing may remove the weakened layer of paint.
Painting & Staining
If your deck is in need of a fresh coat of paint or stain, we are happy to help - whether that be rolling our sleeves up or advising you on best practises.
Initially preparing the boards by means of sanding is a crucial part of the process - simply painting over worn and flaking previous coats will not allow the new paint to properly adhere to the wood or for even absorption of the oils. Once sanded, the boards must be cleaned of debris before the application of a fresh coat of paint or oil. Dependant on the colour choice and condition of the wood, more than one coat may need to be applied and we are happy to advise you on the best practises and material requirements during the quotation process.
Oil Treatments
The application of oil to your deck usually doesn't require initial sanding should the wood be in a good condition and free of heavy weathering. Typically we look to cleaning the surface prior to coating the deck with oil. There are various types of oils available on the market, each with their own unique properties and benefits. We will guide you in selecting the most suitable decking oil, taking into consideration factors such as wood type, climate conditions, and desired finish.
Board Replacements
Whether you have inherited a neglected deck or maintenance procedures have been unfeasible, it may be past practice to ensure the safety and longevity of your deck by replacing boards. This can range from just a number of damaged boards, through to the entire decks surface of boards needing to being lifted and replaced. We can guide through the process and provide assessments of the boards structural integrity, along with cost effective quotations for the works.
Structural Repairs
Often when the decking boards are left damaged and un-treated, after a period of time this damage will progress further down to the structural frame-work. When removing boards for replacement during the assessment process it is common to see rotten joists below. It is strongly advised that these joists are to be renewed to uphold structural integrity. In some cases, on inspection it may be evident that support posts are too suffering from damage and it may be advisable to completely replace or / or remove a deck in the interests of safety.
