Softwoods
Softwoods, such as pine, are less expensive than composites and hardwoods, but less durable. Because they are easier to work with they take less time to lay and so fitting costs are lower in addition to the cost savings made on materials. Good quality softwood is often chosen for its bright colour and the fresh feel that it provides, it comes pre-treated for external use however yearly treatment is advised.
Pine (Redwood)
Redwood is considered to be the most commonly used decking material, notably for its low cost and bright appearance. Redwoods have an attractive grain pattern that adds a touch of elegance and aesthetics to any outdoor living space. This timber choice is always supplied treated - yet will benefit heavily from regular treatments to preserve its integrity.
Larch (Pinaceae)
British Larch is definitively regarded as one the most hard wearing of all domestic softwoods - beautiful in appearance and incredibly resilient.
Due to the natural durability of the wood due to its ultra high resin content, your decking boards will require no treatment once laid, however most customers choose to apply a coat of Fir protector to preserve the supplied colour a little longer or to add additional weather resistance. The colour of British Larch/Douglas Fir varies from a beautiful deep red to pink to cream and is completely random, it adds serious character to the most adaptable of English softwoods. If not treated, it will become a beautiful silver/grey colour once weathered.
Rest assured we only ever supply and construct with sustainably sourced European timber, harvested from FSC certified forests that are continuously replenished and do not damage the surrounding environment.
